INTRO:

Ignite Amps is the leading name in guitar and bass freeware plugins. For years, Federico Berti has been creating some of the highest quality plugins out there, free or paid. In this case we are talking about the TS-999. This plugin is based on one of my personal favorite tube screamers of all time; the ProTone Dead Horse.

EXPERIENCE:

Ignite Amps have always continuously updated their plugins to evolve with the marke, graphics included. I think the TS-999 GUI could use a facelift but othwerwise the GUI is easy to use with high values across all controls. The plugin has the standard TS controls with the addition of two tone altering switches. Like most of Ignite’s plugins, the TS-999 has a second panel. Click the arrow and you get access to the bottom panel where the developer has place controls for oversampling and input/output buffers.

One usage you might not expect from the TS-999 is that it can be used to get somewhere close to the Wampler Paisley drive. I have used it more than a few times out in front of a Fender inspired amp sim to create some really nice modern Telecaster twang. The fat switch comes in handy here to give your twang some more depth.

Mid gain crunch is another application the TS-999 knocks out of the park. Put it out in front of your favorite Mesa Boogie inspired amp sim on the raw or vintage settings and you’ll get a nice warm but full tone. This is a great set-up for a one guitarist situation because the combo enables the user to create a thick but articulate wall of rhythm guitar without a lot of gain.

I used a Dead Horse and a Dead Horse Bulb for a good while in one of my hi-gain rigs. I used it with an EVH 5150 III and a Krank Rev 412. I like to use the Thermionik Psycho C with the TS-999 and a Redwirez Krank Rev 412 together to recreate the old rig and that combination has been one of my personal favorites for a few years when it came to mid or hi-gain. If you have these components, I suggest giving them a shot.

Keep in mind, the Ignite Amps pedals also sound incredible with all of their amp sims. You can get a world of high quality tones with all of the Ignite Amps plugins for absolutely nothing.

UPS / DOWNS:

The GUI could use a sprucing up but otherwise, this is yet another completely incredible plugin from Ignite. Free or paid, their plugins compete with any software in the industry and they do it for $0.00. This pedal is just another tool provided to you by Ignite Amps that helps to create impressive tones.
